Ongoing call for Lit&Tour

Issue 4: Literary Routes for Education and Tourism: New Formulas, New Trends, New Products

Call for papers on:

  • Literary routes and itineraries as educational resources;
  • Literary routes and itineraries as tourist products;
  • Evolution of literary pathways: new needs arising from new audiences and/or new generations of audiences;
  • Thematic Literary Routes: A Step Beyond Authors;
  • Interdisciplinarity and literary pathways: the inclusion of other attractions;
  • Technology and Literary Routes: advantages and limitations.

For decades, literary itineraries, routes, and walks have been implemented with great success around the world. Their potential for tourist application (literary tourism) and also in the field of education has yielded magnificent results. In the latter case, they contribute to literary education at all levels of teaching. This is a well-defined and well-known activity, consisting of visiting certain places or geographical spaces that can be connected through a narrative that binds them together and through the in situ reading of associated literary texts.

Literary routes are, therefore, a very versatile instrument, which has been one of the fundamental keys to their success. Hence, the reality of literary routes today is very varied, and in recent years, the interest they have aroused as a product of cultural tourism and their effectiveness as an educational tool has triggered a multitude of proposals and formulas that have been adapted to very diverse environments, purposes, and recipients.

However, different voices have begun to speak about new needs in approaching literary routes, the possibilities of more imaginative formulas, the incorporation of technologies to enhance participants' experiences, etc. Given that the Lit&Tour magazine is an open forum for existing or under-construction literary tourism products, experiences, and practices, and is a publication interested in promoting reflection on the future paths of intersection between Tourism and Literature; it seems appropriate to dedicate issue 4 of the magazine to the evolution of literary routes as instruments for the socio-cultural application of Literary Heritage, specifically in the educational and tourist domains. All perspectives mentioned above are welcome - new needs arising from new audiences and/or new generations of audiences; the shift towards thematic routes, a step beyond writers; the promotion of multidisciplinarity in the narrative of these routes; the incorporation of technology and its advantages and limitations; etc.

The call for papers on this theme will remain open until September 15, 2024.
